The historical old lighthouse in Key West Florida sits behind tropical foliage including a blooming Flambeau Tree in this Digital Art from an original photograph by Rebecca Korpita. This image has a vintage feel to it and would go great in a vintage tropical themed house or coastal cottage.
This lighthouse opened in 1848 with a woman as its Keeper; nearly unheard of during the 19th century. In 1969, the U.S. Coast Guard decommissioned it since there was no longer a need for a full-time Keeper due to technology. Today, this sentinel of the sea stands as a museum dedicated to Key West’s maritime heritage and to the men and women who bravely kept the light burning through the threats of war and weather.
Rebecca Korpita is an artist living on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her artwork and illustrations reside in collections worldwide, appears on book covers, in magazines and are licensed on home goods and accessories. She is inspired by the coastal area in which she lives - the beach, the people, the lifestyle, the culture, old things and quirky things. Living near New Orleans, she loves the small colorful shotgun houses and captures them whenever she visits.
