Still holding the remaining steps to what probably was once a wonderful treehouse, a gnarled ancient live oak sits next to the beach in Bay St. Louis MS shortly after Hurricane Katrina obliterated the quaint art town. If it could talk, it would speak of many storms through the years but none that compared to Katrina. Battered, but still here, it evokes the spirit and resilience of the live oak trees as well as the people who choose to live here and rebuild their precious coastal towns.
Rebecca Korpita is an artist living on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her artwork and illustrations reside in collections worldwide, appears on book covers, in magazines and are licensed on home goods and accessories. She is inspired by the coastal area in which she lives - the beach, the people, the lifestyle, the culture, old things and quirky things. Living near New Orleans, she loves the small colorful shotgun houses and captures them whenever she visits. Key West and all things tropical as well as women and their friendships and dogs and cats and their relationships with the people they own are some of her subjects.
